Nearly Lemon (1991) is a Midwestern American-born multidisciplinary visual installation artist. They explore themes of loss and identity, reflecting on the self in relation to the natural world, time, society, and death. Concerned with social and environmental injustice, their research integrates globally and eco-conscious methods of recycled painting, writing, found object sculpture, photography, textiles, digital medium, audio, video, performance, and installation practices. These shifting mediums support their mindful ongoing experimentation. Nearly’s daily practice is a necessary medicine as they decolonize their mind, body, and life’s work.
Awarded the 2021 On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneurship Grant and Fellowship by the Indiana Arts Commission. Nearly created Grief Space – a liminal installation offering community support and emotional regulation resources using locally harvested invasive plant material and donated single-use plastics. Nearly took part in Lenka Clayton’s 2023 Spring Mentorship program and is a current resident of An Artist in Residency in Motherhood. Their work is represented in private collections and was featured in the 2022 Group Exhibit Artists at Work at the Gayle Karch Cook Center and multiple issues of Queen Spirit Magazine.
Nearly’s recent works include collaborations with sound and visual artist YOURHEAD, 2024 writing facilitation via The Golden Hour Louisville, and ongoing creative works with artist-musician TanrLemn, artist-poet Sunshine Meyers, and artist-creator Korie Griggs. Currently developing a new body of work exploring parenting with memory loss and facial aphasia for a solo exhibition to take place in the Winter of 2025.
